QUILT PREPARATION
Please take the time to review and follow the guidelines below to ensure the best results for your quilt. If you have any questions, please contact me and I can answer any questions.
-
Backing must be 8-10 inches larger than quilt top, both width and height.
-
Square up top and backing.
-
Do not use sheets or heavy decorator type fabric for the backing.
-
When piecing the back make sure to remove the salvages from the seams, use a ½ inch seam and press to one side.
-
Backs that are pieced with multiple pieces of fabric can cause difficulty when quilting and could result in a small fold or tuck on the back.
-
If you have preshrunk the material used in your quilt, it is best to also preshrink your backing.
-
Remove all stray threads from both the back and the front.
-
Mark the top of the quilt and with a safety pin.
-
Please do not attach embellishments such as buttons, yo-yos, crystals, etc.
-
Stay stitch the outer seams of your quilt if there are a lot of outer seams or there are bias edges that could stretch.
-
Iron both the quilt top and backing. Make sure the seams are properly ironed. Fold quilt and backing and place on a hangar.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, please make sure your borders are not wavy. Hold your quilt by the bottom and bring it up to the middle. Is the bottom of your quilt the same width as the middle? It is very difficult to properly quilt with a wavy border.
